Edition 1983
Nothing is easier than to fail what you have succeeded only once. Because it is necessary to master a “phenomenon” of which we learned the recipe by creating it, because, the second time, the “observers” are very attentive to track down the faults, because… So we did EVERYTHING in our power to make sure that we were doing it the right way. Judge for yourself: benefiting from our previous experiences, we are able to present you, this year, 29 unreleased films, of which a dozen are not distributed in Belgium (until now); added to the 32 films of the retrospective, it is 61 films that we “offer” to the craving ” fans ” of the fantastic and science-fiction film. Wishing to preserve the coherence of our programming, we have articulated all the evenings around the themes treated by the films that we present in “unpublished” or in “competition”. Violence and horror are the main themes, but the wonderful field of fantasy cinema is also present, and is becoming more and more popular. We have, of course, made a special effort to ensure that our event is crowned by the visit of some major personalities: we won’t take the risk of naming them, as they form the most “volatile” part of the festival. You will just have to look at the “themes” illustrated by our program to see if our hopes were not fulfilled… For this second edition, we have again accused what makes our event original: we invite you to a real popular festival of fantasy: 2 theater groups will haunt the corridors of the Auditorium, a dozen video screens will bombard you with their images throughout these 16 days during which, if you feel like it, you can “remake your portrait” at the make-up stand, you can wander around without ever getting bored by detailing the exhibitions that we have spent many months preparing (record sleeves, painting exhibitions, sculptures), etc. Note by the way that our prices are still very democratic. Compared to last year, we have, nevertheless, made some changes. First of all, we have added a “Short Film Competition” section at the end of which a “Best Short Film Award” will be given. We thought it would be interesting to add this section, because it is with the short film that most young directors show their “know-how” and, often, summarize in a masterly way what they will not develop in their next feature films. The short film is a breeding ground for talent and we wanted there to be no barrier between the public and these young directors full of ideas. So, reserve your seats now for the two screenings where they will be shown: this year, access will be free! For the first year, we have limited the competition to films from French-speaking countries. Then, we have added two other prizes to our list of winners: the “Special Fantasy Film Prize” and the “Special Science Fiction Film Prize” which replace the “Audience Prize” and the “Press Prize”, this because of our affiliation to the FIAPF! (International Association of Film Producers). We hope that you will come as numerous as last year, that you will enjoy yourselves as much as last year, and that you will meet us next year at the same time. WARNING: fasten your seatbelts, beware of counterfeits, avoid skin contact, the organizers apologize for last minute changes, keep children away (except on Wednesday afternoon for those under 16)…
