WAKE UP (2024)

Wake up! That’s what a group of Gen-Z activists would like to scream at the people who shop at Scandinavian furniture multinational Home Idea (har har, ya see what they did there?) and thereby condone their massive deforestation campaigns. Tonight is their big moment, their big statement to the world! They’re going to hide out in one of the branch’s flagship stores until after closing hours and completely trash the place. Spraying paint or fake blood and animal guts over display pieces, that sort of thing – and, of course, post the pictures on TikTok and Instagram. What about the night watchman, you ask? Ah, who cares, probably already asleep or too wasted to pay much attention to the screen. Unfortunately, Kevin is not just any night watchman. He’s a man close to a nervous breakdown and even closer to getting fired for his supposedly “extreme” methods. Luckily, he can take his mind off things with his buds, a group of survivalists that go on hunting trips together with their own homemade traps and weaponry… And tonight is also Kevin’s big moment, having found the perfect prey to unleash his deadly toys on!
Finally! After nine years, the Canadian trio RKSS that brought us TURBO KID (BIFFF 2015) are back with another delight, albeit in a totally different vein, pitting two very contemporary, ideologically opposing groups – activists 2.0 and survivalist nut jobs – against each other in a lethal game of hide-and-seek. Perhaps not the wake-up call we need, but the one we deserve!
