MARISA & GOMOSO (2024)

As a teenybopper Marisa had it all, her very own immensely popular kids show and a filthy rich husband, but ten years down the line all of that is gone. The show got canceled, her husband turned out to be a cheating sleazebag and so she’s back to square one, in her childhood’s neighborhood. Luckily she bumps into Gomoso, the fluffy, goofball puppet she used to form a duo with back in her heyday in the spotlights. He’s also down on his luck, forced to take up a job as an Uber driver to make ends meet. Together they drink and dance their sorrow away and one thing leading to another, they end up canoodling in bed. For Marisa this is the beginning of a whole new beautiful chapter in her life, already picturing herself walking down the aisle with him. For Gomoso though? Nothing more than a half-decent shag on a drunken Friday night. ‘Coz you see, Gomoso is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Underneath the highly huggable exterior hides an extremely foul-mouthed, bigoted, racist, alpha male asshole – with a plan! Love-struck Marisa may just be his ticket back to a lifestyle of the rich and famous, by getting the show back on the air, with expenses fully covered by Marisa. But who knows, maybe underneath Marisa’s naïve, gullible sheep’s clothing hides a ferocious wolf, too…
We know Pablo Parés mostly as a director of lurid sci-fi and horror flicks (DAEMONIUM, I AM TOXIC) but he’s got a weirder side. Evidenced by this aggressively bizarre black comedy which pushes the limits of bad taste into a delirious realm where decency and political correctness are completely powerless. And, much like a children’s show, it’s full of important life lessons… we just might have to brush up on our Argentinian slang to understand them.
