SLEEP (2024)

Just married and living the life we always imagine the lovers at the end of a Hugh Grant flick embark on, Soo-jin, Hyun-su and their cute lil’ pup Pepper are united in pure domestic bliss. Not a single cloud on the horizon to darken their happiness. At least, not during the day… Because at nightfall, Soo-jin’s husband has started behaving strangely. First, by talking in his sleep. A minor nuisance. Then, he went onto slightly more annoying bouts of sleepwalking, which are messy when he decides to ransack the fridge with the subtlety of a polar bear, but potentially mortal when he tries to jump from the window. And downright disturbing when he unwittingly devours poor Pepper… But Soo-jin, in full-fledged warrior of love mode, does not easily give up on her couple, despite the ever increasing dark circles under her eyes. On the agenda, treatment at the sleep clinic and a nighttime straightjacket for our future daddy. Oh, because yes, we forget to mention Soo-jin is about to give birth and she’d hate to see her newborn turn into a late-night snack…
Unlike Hyun-su, director Jason Yu clearly isn’t sleepwalking through the script of his first feature, which juggles different emotions ranging from charmingly quirky at the beginning to a downright diabolical ending. And if you don’t believe us, take it from Uncle Bong Joon-ho: “The most unique horror movie I’ve seen in the last ten years”! Starring Yu-mi Yung (LAST TRAIN TO BUSAN) and the late Hong Sang-soo (PARASITE).
