Unless, of course, you’re an opportunistic slacker like Tansholpan, who collects debts like Pokémon cards. But rather than come up with a repayment plan with his bank, he decides to drag Azamat, his pregnant wife, into a sick scam: pretending she has terminal cancer, launching a crowdfunding campaign on social media, and raking in the cash. Did he imagine they’d become a national symbol while accumulating a mind-blowing fortune? Of course not. Tansholpan is incapable of anticipating anything, let alone the sudden interest the local underworld shows in his initiative… SICKO is a blend of violence, dark humor, and cynicism that confirms Kazakhstan’s rising prominence in genre cinema!
