The ancient Romans already knew that “De gustibus non disputandum.” Nevertheless, Ibrahim has to go above and beyond to convince his brand-new wife Zehra that the super-kitschy coffee table he has set his sights on is the perfect finishing touch for their brand new apartment. The euphoria he feels upon the hard-fought purchase will, however, prove to be short-lived… The realization that, Ikea-wise, a couple of crucial screws are missing is but the beginning of his worries. The glass, touted as unbreakable, will be responsible for a much bigger headache. With this remake of LA MESITA DEL COMEDOR (White Raven Award at the BIFFF 2023), director Can Evrenol poignantly shows us that shards don’t necessarily herald good fortune.
