WHEN EVIL LURKS (2024)

It starts off innocently enough: a corpse ripped in half that brothers Pedro and Jimmy discover in the Argentinian countryside. Worse still, a bit further at the farm of Maria Elena they stumble upon the bloated, oozing heap of flesh that used to be her son. He has turned into what in local folklore is called a ‘Rotten’, a being possessed by an evil entity. Understandably they want to get rid of the thing, but instead of observing the ancient rules of etiquette that are prescribed in the case of dealing with such unspeakable evil, Pedro and Jimmy – not exactly the superstitious kind – decide to dump the rotten bastard in a ditch 300 kilometers away. A poor decision. If you move a Rotten, it will only help the demon spread. Now the shadow of evil looms large over their community, with no one being safe from potential possession, not even pets, pregnant women or children! When in doubt, shoot ‘m up? Another poor decision, as the evil only grows and festers when confronted with firearms. Soon it will swallow whole everything they hold dear in this world…
We already wanted to show you this piece of absolute terror and dread sprouted from the evil, evil mind of Demian Rugna (TERRIFIED – BIFFF 2018) last year but couldn’t. In the meantime, much like the evil it portrays, the film has spread across an unsuspecting world that is completely defenseless to its dark powers: it won the Best Film Award at Sitges 2023 and has shocked and disturbed audiences across the globe.
